How the God Mwari created the world

In the beginning the God Mwari stretched out his hands

And he built the sun, the stars and the moon,

He made day and night,

Land and sea,

Forests and deserts,

Mountains and plains,

Fire and wind,

Earth and water.

Hot summers and cold winters

Dry seasons and wet seasons.

Mwari made plants and fishes,

Birds and animals.

He made the hunter and the hunted,

The carnivores and the grass eaters,

Tame animals and wild mammals.

The God Mwari formed humans

He made men and women,

He created people of different colours,

He made blacks and whites,

Brown and yellow people.

He made different nations with different languages

He formed various tribes with various cultures.

Mwari made wicked people and righteous people

Strong tribes and weak nations

Wise men and fools

Beautiful people and ugly people,

Tall men and short men

Chaste wives and promiscuous whores

Fat people and thin people,

Rich people and poor people

The brave and the cowardly.

Mwari has mysterious wisdom that cannot be explained

He made benevolent spirits and evil spirits

Life and death,

Joy and sorrow,

Good fortune and tragedy,

Cruelty and kindness,

Sicknesses and cures,

Pain and pleasure,

Feast and famine,

War and peace,

Truth and deceit.

When Mwari saw that there was perfect balance in the

world, he rested.

Mwari left humans to manage their own affairs,

He instructed them to appeal to their ancestral spirits for

assistance and guidance.
