Every morning on a farm
The Rooster would ring the alarm
And make all the animals alert
That it was time to go to work.
The Rooster would walk proudly,
And boast aloud,
That he was the most important animal around.
He said he was better than the pigs, dogs, cattle and
sheep
Because without him all the animals would remain
asleep.
One day the Rooster looked to the sky
And saw an eagle flying high.
As he watched the eagle soar
The Rooster’s heart was sore.
He had never been in the sky and this hurt his pride
He felt jealousy, envy, anger and sadness inside.
The Rooster began to cry,
‘The eagle has wings and so have I
We are both birds, if he can fly, then so can I!’
So the Rooster went up a mountain
He jumped off and flapped his little wings but it was all
in vain.
Down the slope he tumbled
Though not hurt he was humbled.
So the Rooster returned to the farm
And every morning he would ring the alarm
And make all the animals alert
That it was time to go to work.
The Rooster was no longer proud.
He would not boast aloud
That he was the most important animal around.
He realised that he was no better than the cows, horses, cats
and goats
Who worked hard every day but would never boast.
After his fall from the mountain
Never again would the Rooster be vain.
